Title: Comprehensive Management of Swallowing Disorders

Dysphagia – difficulties in swallowing – are a major factor involved in malnutrition in many cases. Nutritionists can benefit from better understanding this complex process. “Comprehensive Management of Swallowing Disorders” by Ricardo L. Carrau, Thomas Murry and Rebecca J. Howell (San Diego, CA: Plural Publishing: 2017) is one of the most comprehensive books on dysphagia. Its contents inform on the nature of swallowing, the etiology of relevant disease, evaluations, diagnosis and interventions for swallowing problems in adults. It could thus be useful for nutritionists and dietitions, pediatricians, occupational therapists, gastroenterologists, otorhinolaryngologists, neurologists, surgeons, speech and language pathologists, and families of patients with swallowing problems. This second edition textbook, which was published in 2017, is divided into seven sections that each address a fundamental knowledge gap, providing a comprehensive foundation from which future treatment innovation can be made.

Abstract

Title: Petroleum jelly and COVID-19 prevention

Background: Since the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has had a significant impact on public health and also the clinical benefits of the medications are so limited, preventive measures may be able to help control its spread. Because of the petroleum jelly compound could alter the physicochemical properties that affect adhesion, we investigated the preventive role of Petroleum jelly on covid-19 infection.

Material and methods: Forty people with no sign and no history of covid-19 infection, was included in this study. They use petroleum jelly (Vaseline) nasally twice a day for about two months. After that time, participants tested by RT-qPCR for determine any infection with SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Results: There was a significant difference in terms of RT-PCR results between the intervention and control groups.

Conclusions: Petroleum jelly may be effective in preventing covid-19 infection.|

Abstract

Title: Nurses’ Knowledge and Contributing Factors Regarding Adverse Medication Events at Intensive Care Units: A Cross Sectional Study in Makkah Hospitals, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Introduction: Medication errors are a major concern in the healthcare setting, as they result from the inappropriate use of products related to the treatment or the effects that lead to harm. In Saudi Arabia, prescription errors constitute nearly one-fifth of all medication errors, but there is a difference in dealing with the process of using medications based on each country and its background.

Aim: To assess the ICU nurses’ knowledge and contributing factors regarding adverse medication events at Makkah City Hospitals in Saudi Arabia.

Methods: The study was a cross-Sectional Study Designed among nurses at different hospitals in Makkah City in Saudi Arabia. A random Probability sampling technique will be used to choose the appropriate sample of nurses The sample size was 155. Valid and reliable knowledge, on medication errors questionnaire was used. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26 for Microsoft Windows was used to analyze all the data.

Results: There was good knowledge regarding adverse medication events for (13.5%) of or participants. Most of the participants (86.5%) had poor knowledge regarding adverse medication events. The mean for knowledge Among ICU Nurses About Adverse Medication Events among males(4.81), and females (4.28). There was no significant statistical relationship regarding knowledge among ICU nurses about adverse medication events with gender, p-value=0.598, education level, p-value=0.089, workplace, p-value=0.376. There was a significant statistical relationship regarding knowledge Among ICU Nurses About Adverse Medication Events with age, p-value=0.002, nationality, p-value=0.000, role/profession, p-value=0.002.

Conclusion and Recommendation: The study’s result emphasizes underscores the importance of enhancing ICU nurses’ knowledge and skills related to adverse medication events. Hospital management should provide training opportunities to help nurses develop their knowledge and skills in medication administration to prevent medication errors and ensure patient safety.

The purpose of this study was to find out what is the effectiveness of the protection measures issued to control physical and psychological violence against the users of the Ombudsman’s Office in Alto Trujillo, in times of a pandemic. A non-experimental, qualitative phenomeno logical study was carried out, since with this method it was possible to describe the perceived subject, in this case the users of the Defensoría de la Mujer-Alto Trujillo, recognizing and validating the knowledge, as well as the description of the phenomenon insofar as the subject describes the lived experience and the meaning it had, how he experienced it and how he interpreted it. The population was made up of 10 users of the Women’s Ombudsman’s Office, considering only those users who were present at the time of applying the in-depth interview and who had their protection measures, the in-depth interview on the effectivenesof the measures was used as an instrument. protection measures. The results showed that the protection measures did not guarantee the protection stipulated in these, since most of the aggressors did not comply with the restrictions imposed by the judge, evidencing that the interviewees continue to suffer physical abuse such as pulling their hair, slapping, kicking , etc. as well as aggressions or psychological violence such as insults, offenses and humiliations.

Focusing on pharmaceutical molecule development primarily aims to position Saudi Arabia as a prominent center for pharmaceutical innovation worldwide. Title: BASANT a Unique Polyherbal Formulation for a Healthy Vagina

BASANT is composed of Curcumin (diferuloyl methane), Aloe vera, purified extracts of Amla (Emblica Officinalis) and Neem (Azadirachta Indica) along with pharmacopially approved excipients. It has remarkable efficacy of curing Vaginosis (abnormal vaginal discharge), restoring vaginal pH to 4.5 of healthy vagina. It is effective also in women incurable by antibiotics: Metronidazole, Clinmamycin plus chlortrimazole. BASANT inhibits the growth of all WHO strains and clinical isolates of N.gonorrhoeae, including those resistant to penicillin, tetracycline, nalidixic acid and ciproflaxin. It has pronounced inhibitory action against Candida glabrata, Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis isolated from women with vulvo-vaginal candidiasis, including those resistant to azole drugs and amphotericin B. BASANT exercises high virucidal action against HIV and inhibits the entry of HIV in cells with either CCR5 or CXCR4 receptors. It not only kills HPV-16, but is also astonishingly effective in eliminating HPV-16 from infected cervical cells rendering the Pap smear to normal state. With due approval of Drugs Regulatory Authorities, it has undergone successfully safety and efficacy trials. It has been passed onto a company M/s Bipha Drug Laboratories, Kerala for making it available to public.

Abstract

Title: : Radiographic Evaluation of Position and Angulation of Impacted Maxillary Canines in Cleft Palate Cases

Objective: To evaluate the position and angulation of impacted maxillary canines in unilateral and bilateral cleft lip and palate cases and compare them to noncleft cases.

Material and method: In this study 60 patients OPGs were taken out of which 20 (12 males, 8 females) presented with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) (Group I), 20 (15 males, 5 females) had bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP) (Group II) and 20 (13 males, 7 females) had no clefts (Group III). All the subjects had impacted maxillary canines (bilateral or unilateral). Cases with 2/3rd canine root completion were selected. Intruis suite R2 software was used to determine the position and angulation of the canine.

Results: A total of 63% (37) of the canines were in Sector 1, and 31% (18) were in Sector 2. In-depth of canine impaction relative to the root of the incisor maximum canines were in Grade II and Grade III at 45% (27) and 36% (22) respectively. Angulation of the canine relative to the intercondylar line was seen most in Group II (75%) and (19%) in Group I as compared to the noncleft group (Group III). No difference was seen in the position of canine impaction for buccally and palatally canines and for the unilateral and bilateral cleft groups or the noncleft and cleft groups.

Conclusions: The majority of the impacted canines had cusp tips located in sectors II and III. In almost all cases, angulation did not increase the prediction of eventual impaction, although it may have contributed slightly in Sector II.

Title: : Independent nursing consultations are a desirable component of healthcare

The paper argues that the widespread implementation of a new healthcare service called “independent nursing consultation” will significantly improve the functioning of the healthcare system and enhance the quality of medical services. This new service requires modifying the traditional healthcare organization, which assumes that a doctor is necessary in every case, thus limiting the prompt initiation and management of treatment. The paper first reviews the training of nurses in Poland and compares it with two other countries. It identifies healthcare areas where nursing consultations are highly justified and beneficial. The implementation of independent nursing consultations is illustrated through the example of the LUX MED Medical Center. The methods for ensuring the appropriate quality of nursing consultations provided by the exemplary institution are also described. The paper justifies why the extensive introduction of nursing consultations will increase access to healthcare services, improve their quality, and positively impact the size and development of the nursing workforce.

Danuta Abram, born on July 17, 1984, in Nysa, Poland, is the Nurses Manager at LUX MED in Opole and a lecturer at the State Academy of Applied Sciences in Nysa. She holds Master’s degrees in Nursing and Pedagogy, specializing in Family and Epidemiological Nursing. Danuta plans to pursue a doctoral dissertation on evaluating AI systems in nursing. At LUX MED, she oversees a nursing team providing dermatology, infectious disease consultations, and more. As a lecturer, she teaches Primary Health Care and Medical Didactics and coordinates promotion for the Nursing program. She has also presented on telemedicine at the Polish Society of Health Economics Symposium.

Abstract

Title: Prevention and Improved Treatment of Diabetes using a Micronutrient Mixture, Probiotics, Omega3, and Collagen Peptides

Diabetes mellitus is a progressive chronic disease associated with enhanced levels of fasting glucose, HbA1C, and insulin resistance. Despite diabetic medications, which reduce the blood level of glucose but not the causes of the disease, complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy, peripheral neuropathy, and heart disease develop. External stressors which include poor diet and lifestyle, and excessive exposure to environmental toxins increase the levels of certain internal stressors such as oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. These internal stressors damage the insulin receptors causing accumulation of glucose in the blood leading to diabetes type II. Despite valuable recommendations for improving diet and lifestyle, and avoiding environmental toxins, the risk of developing diabetes type II continues to increase. In addition to elevated levels of oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, there are other internal stressors which include intestinal dysbiosis, omega-3-fatty acids dysfunction, oxidative damage to insulin receptors, and increased activity of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which prevents the secretion of insulin from the pancreas to the blood, contribute to the development and progression of diabetes type II. Addressing one of these internal stressors at a time may not produce an optimal benefit. To prevent and improve treatment of diabetes type II, this review proposes to address all external and internal stressors at the same. The proposal includes (a) adoption of good diet, healthy lifestyle, and reducing exposure to environmental toxins, (b) supplementation with a micronutrient mixture which would simultaneously reduce oxidative stress and chronic inflammation by elevating the levels of antioxidant enzymes and antioxidant compounds, (c) probiotics with prebiotics which would reverse the intestinal dysbiosis, (d) in patients with insulin resistance, omega-3-fatty acids directly activate the insulin receptor-linked signaling protein AKT which signals glucose transporter-4 (GLUT-4) to migrate to the cell surface and allows entry of glucose inside the cells, and (e) collagen peptides which increase the secretion of insulin by inhibiting dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) activity. The proposed plan may prevent and in combination with drugs may improve their effectiveness in diabetes type II.

Abstract

Title: Effects of Pain Neuroscience Education and Physiotherapy on Chronic Low Back Pain, Fear of Movement and Functional Status: A Randomised Pilot Study

Background: Chronic non-specific low back pain is a non-harmous condition often found in the general population. It is one of the most significant disabilities and needs different treatment modalities. This study investigates the effects of pain neuroscience education and physiotherapy on pain intensity, fear of movement and functional status in a Lithuanian cohort with non-specific low back pain. Methods: The study was performed at the primary health care unit in Kaunas, Lithuania. The key inclusion criterion was persistent non-specific low back pain longer than three months and which affects daily life functions. Thirty participants (mean 33.47, SD 4.38 years age, 70% women) were randomised into two training groups with and without pain neuroscience education (for a total of 60 min of teaching). Physiotherapy was performed twice per week during 45 min/session for a period of 10 weeks with exercises which strengthen, stabilize, and stretch the spinal cord muscles. Outcomes included pain intensity, kinesiophobia and disability and these were measured by self-scored questionnaires (numeric rating scale, Tampa scale for kinesiophobia-11, Oswestry disability index and the Roland-Morris questionnaire, respectively). Results: The results indicate that both groups improved in the measured outcomes, with the only difference between them being a better improvement in kinesiophobia in the group receiving physiotherapy and pain neuroscience education. Conclusions: The results of this study confirm that a relatively short intervention of pain neuroscience education enhances the effects of physiotherapy and should be implemented in clinical practice.
